Balance for Better: Towards a Gender Balanced World – Celebrating International Women’s Day 2019

The Department of Private and Comparative Law, together with 2nd year undergraduates of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, organized ‘Balance for Better: Towards a Gender Balanced World’ on 13th (Wednesday) March 2019, at the College House Auditorium. The event marked the International Women’s Day falling on 8th March. While celebrating the progress the world has achieved in creating a gender balanced world, the event specifically focused on promoting the gender balance in Sri Lanka and providing a forum for an exchange on prevailing issues, efforts and challenges.

Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy, a lawyer, diplomat and advocate, who has been a part of several United Nations missions as an expert graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. At th犀利士
e event Dr. Coomaraswamy shared her views and experiences on the gender balance in the Sri Lankan law and society.

The event primarily aimed at educating the Faculty and the University community about a better gender balance and to offered inspiration and motivation to achieve the same through active participation of everyone. The event was a platform which showcased the talents of the undergraduates of year II. It is yet another instance of experiential learning at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.
