Fundamentals of Legal Research Series – 03

The Department of Public and International Law organized its 3rd Forum of Fundamentals of Legal Research on 17th of June 2021 From 2.30 onwards. The guest speaker, Ellen Hey is a Professor of Public International Law, Erasmus School of Law, Erasmus University Rotterdam. She holds degrees in law from Utrecht University (LL.B, 1978; LL.M, 1981; Doctorate, 1989) and a M.Sc. in Marine Law and Policy, University of Wales (1983). Her research interests include international environmental law, international natural resources law and the law of international organizations and she delivered an insightful lecture under the theme of “‘Soft Law’ in terms of Research and Approaches to Research“. In her lecture, she was focusing on the possible ways of researching ‘soft law’ and the issues of legitimacy that ‘soft law gives raise to. In that regard, She addressed the differences between the role of Soft Law in Developing legal infrastructure and in regulating human activities. She also 犀利士
drew examples from international instruments and agreements to support her stance. She was also discussing the scholarly debates of Klabbers, Brunnee, Kingsbury et.al and Pauwelyn et al in this regard.
