Inauguration Ceremony of Diploma in Public Law-2021
The Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo successfully organised the Inauguration Ceremony for Diploma in Public Law on the 16th October 2021 via online. This is the first time in Sri Lankan history, that a State university initiates a Diploma course in Law for students beyond the university. Department of Public and International Law considered, ‘making public aware on Law’ as a social responsibility. Despite the pandemic situation prevailing in the country, the Department received a number of applications from various professionals of public and private sectors. Dr.Sampath Punchihewa, the Dean, Faculty of Law addressed the students following the welcome speech which was delivered by Prof. Wasantha Seneviratne, the Head, Department of Public and International Law. Mr. Prashantha Lal De Alwis PC, the Keynote speaker of the event delivered his key note by indicating valuable points including the definition of public law, importance of learning public law, and crucial features of public law. Prof. Wasantha Seneviratne, also the Course Director of Diploma in Public Law, introduced the course structure and course conveners to the students. The inauguration ceremony conducted in all the three languages and the course is also going to be conducted in all the three languages. Due to the prevailing pandemic situation in the country, it was decided that the course will be conducted via online.
This Ceremony was Coordinated by Ms. Rajendran Pavithra, Lecturer (Probationary), Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law with the assistance of Ms. Maheshika Perera, Secretary of Diploma in Public Law.
