Diploma in Private Law

In the current Sri Lankan setting, there is an essential necessity to disseminate knowledge on specific aspects of private law that govern the day-to-day affairs of the general public.  This course intends to furnish a general overview of specific facets of private law by blending theory and practice with the objective of assisting the target for the purpose of dissemination of knowledge to the target audiences, enabling them to make informed decisions.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Diploma in Private Law, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

Academic Qualifications:

  1. Three (3) passes in the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination or an equivalent qualification.

  2. Six (6) passes in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination plus at least two (2) years of relevant work experience in law, healthcare, or a related field.

  3. Completion of a foundation course equivalent to SLQF Level 2.

  4. NVQF Level 4 certification with five (5) years of work experience in a relevant field or accredited prior learning, followed by a minimum 30-credit programme approved by the Faculty of Law.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).

  • Successful performance in an interview/viva voce conducted by the Department of Private and Comparative Law.

  • Applicants qualifying under SLQF Level 2 or NVQF Level 4 may be required to pass an additional admission test.

    • Mention this as a bill payment if the system rejects the account number.

    • Application fee payment receipt

    • Academic/professional qualifications

    • NIC (front & back) or passport

    • Work experience certificates (if applicable)
