ANNUAL RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM 2021
The Faculty of Law will conduct its annual Law Symposium on Saturday 27th November 2021 via Zoom from 9 AM – 6 PM, hosting eminent international and local legal scholars, practitioners and distinguished members of the judiciary.
Theme
Adopting the theme, impactful legal research through an interdisciplinary approach, this year’s symposium organisers have lined up distinguished scholars and practitioners to deliver key notes, followed by exciting three technical sessions facilitated by the three Departments of the Faculty of Law.
Keynotes
The keynotes of the inaugural session will be delivered by Prof. Benjamin Schonthal (Professor of Buddhism/Asian Religions at the University of Otago in New Zealand, Co-Director Otago Centre for Law and Society). The key notes of the technical session of the Department of Private & Comparative Law will be delivered by Prof. Deeksha Bhana (Professor of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg).
Guests
Hon Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, Mr. Jayantha Jayasuriya, PC will grace the occasion as Chief Guest with the Guest of Honour, Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyarathna, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo.
Technical Sessions
Three concurrent technical sessions will be held after the key notes where peer-reviewed academic papers will be presented by local and international scholars on various interdisciplinary topics.

Registration
Participation of the symposium is by registration on the first-come-first served basis. Due to the limited capacity of Zoom platform, only the following persons are invited to register: lawyers; law students of Government law teaching institutes, and academics of Government higher education institutes. Zoom links will be emailed to the registered participants 2 days before the Symposium via email.
