CERTIFICATE COURSE IN PATENT LAW – 2023
The Department of Commercial Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the Certificate Course in Patent Law.
Admission Requirements for Certificate Course in Patent Law:
- A Basic Degree in the subject of Law or Legal Studies OR
- Any other relevant degree OR
- Law Students OR
- A professional qualification in the field of Law
Course Fee: LKR 60, 000/ (for Sri Lankan citizens)
USD 175 (for citizens of SAARC member countries)
USD 225 (for all other applicants)
Medium: English (*Online Lectures)
Duration: 30 hours – Saturday 11.00 am – 1.00 pm (Indian Standard Time)
Structure of the Course – Coursework and Assessment

Payment of a non-refundable fee (application fee) of LKR 1,500/- (for the Sri Lankan participants) or 5 USD (for the participants outside Sri Lanka) should be made to any branch of the People’s Bank of Sri Lanka or via online transfer to the credit of the “Main collection account of the University of Colombo” (Account Number: 086100161189655) under Reference No. 310014800003.
(Duplicate bank payment slip or proof of payment of the application fee with the duly filled application form, a copy of the applicant’s Identity card or passport, and the certified copies of the educational certificates should be sent to the Coordinator, Certificate Course in Patent Law, Department of Commercial Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Philip Gunawardana Mawatha, Colombo 07, via registered post or by email to commercial@law.cmb.ac.lk).
*All the lectures will be conducted online.
The course is ideal for commercial/corporate/intellectual property lawyers, managers, and professionals who are interested in learning the theoretical and practical aspects of Patent Law as well as Patent drafting. The lecture panel consists of global and regional experts on the subject.
This course is scheduled to start from the second week of February 2023 provided the required number of applications are received.
The University of Colombo has the authority to take all decisions regarding this course.
