Message from the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo
I am honoured to serve as the Dean of this prestigious institution on this historic moment. The Faculty of Law was founded in 1947 and to date is the only law faculty in the university system in Sri Lanka. Therefore, it is with great pride and pleasure that I congratulate the faculty of law community as we celebrate 75 years of continuing legal education, learning and research.
Over the past 75 years, the faculty has developed in large part thanks to its students, faculty, staff alumni and well-wishers. My sincere thanks to you.
The inauguration ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will set the tone for celebrating not only the past, but also a broader vision of the faculty’s future. I look forward to working with each and every one of you.

I am truly delighted for the opportunity to applaud the efforts of the Diamond Jubilee organizing committee and all the members of the Faculty of Law, who have come together in unity and strength to organize a series of national and international events, to celebrate the unblemished journey of 75 years of teaching and research in the field of law.
On behalf of the Department of Public and International Law, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses connected with the foundational norms of rule of law, good governance, constitutionalism, human rights and such other local and global standards, I take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt congratulations to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Faculty of Law. We are inspired by the energetic spirit of the faculty and staff, as well as the passion and dynamism of our students. Our determination is to maintain and further upscale the academic and professional standards of the faculty in this long journey to be continued.
I wish you all the very best and look forward to participating in the momentous occasion of launching 75th Anniversary celebrations!!!
Message from the Head, Department of Private and Comparative Law, Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law has stood the test of time to excel in legal education and research to meet social needs in a culture of inclusive learning. The Department of Private and Comparative Law, the largest department of the faculty was established in 2009 to support this vision.
As we celebrate 75 years of history, it is timely to consider creating a clearer and better vision for our country’s future legal community. Our faculty is determined and ready to take on that challenge.
Therefore, as we look towards the past and remember the glory of this renowned institution, let us in fact celebrate our vision for the future as we continue to touch the lives of everyone who is fortunate to pass through these hallowed halls.

Mr. Menaka Harankaha
We are celebrating the Diamond Jubilee this year! It has been humbling to be part of this journey of discovery as we strive to expand the boundaries of legal knowledge and instill life-long lessons and values to our students. 75 years is truly a remarkable feat.
As we continue to grow, learn and change the trajectory of legal education in Sri Lanka, we are thankful to our predecessors who have contributed both professionally and personally. This year is a testament to their commitment.
I wish the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Committee all the best as it works to make this year memorable for the faculty of law community and their families.
