‘Justice through the Lens’, the Exhibition and Award Ceremony of the Photography Competition organised by the Department of Private and Comparative Law, was held on the 22nd of January 2025 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo. The competition theme, ‘Justice through the Lens’, invited photographic interpretations from university students, ranging from social justice and the rule of law to the pursuit of equality. This year’s competition attracted 99 entries from students of Sri Lankan universities and the Sri Lanka Law College, who submitted thought-provoking and creative photographs reflecting various dimensions of justice. The winners were selected for their artistic excellence and relevance to the competition’s theme.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Senior Professor (Chair) H. D. Karunaratne, graced the event as the chief guest. In his speech at the award ceremony, Prof. Karunaratne commended the students for their talents and further expounded on the importance of providing opportunities to showcase the artistic abilities and creative thinking of university students through events and competitions.
The selection committee members were Emeritus Prof. Sharya Scharenguivel, Prof. (Chair) Rose Wijeyesekere, Mr. Prasantha Lal De Alwis, PC, and Mr. Sarath Perera. This event was organised under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Nishantha Sampath Punchihewa, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Dr. Udapadie Liyanage, the Head of the Department of Private and Comparative Law of the University of Colombo. The event’s organising committee would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the participants, the selection committee members, students, and the University of Colombo staff for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the event.
