The Conference Organising Committee invites original, high-quality submissions that explore the ways in which the law responds to issues of equality, sustainability, and innovation in the age of AI. In engaging with these emerging developments, authors are encouraged to adopt diverse research methods and interdisciplinary approaches, critically examining the complexities arising therefrom.

Originality and Exclusivity

Submissions must be original, unpublished work.

Manuscripts should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere at the time of submission or during the review process.

Submission and Word Count

Abstract Only
  • 250–300 words in length
  • Must succinctly state the central argument and key findings
  • Include 4–5 keywords
  • Times New Roman, 12-point font
  • No footnotes permitted in the abstract
Full Paper (with Abstract)
  • 3,000–5,000 words, excluding references
  • Must include an abstract of 250–300 words
  • Abstract must include 4–5 keywords; no footnotes in abstract
  • Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing
  • Standard margins; pagination at bottom right

Submission Format

All submissions must be in Microsoft Word format and include complete details of the author(s).

Filename format: [LastName_ShortTitle_Date]

The title should be centre-aligned, Times New Roman 14-point, bolded, written in sentence case.

The name(s) and email address(es) of the author(s) should appear beneath the title, centre-aligned.

An asterisked footnote should be used to indicate the author's current affiliation and any acknowledgements, if applicable.

Please select the most suitable submission link in the portal based on the subject matter of the paper — Department of Commercial Law, Department of Public and International Law, or Department of Private and Comparative Law.

Referencing and Citations

Footnotes in the full paper must conform to the Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA). The 4th edition is recommended.

Language and Style

All submissions must follow British English spelling conventions.

All abbreviations must be spelled out fully on first use, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.

Use "per cent" instead of the symbol "%".

The word "Article" should be capitalised when referring to legal instruments (e.g., Article 21).

Non-English words or phrases should be italicised, with the English translation provided in parentheses immediately after the term.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and language quality of their submissions.

Heading Numbering Format

Ensure headings are consistently formatted with the same font, size, and spacing throughout.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use

Authors must adhere to the University of Colombo Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Academic and Administrative Activities.

The use of AI tools for substantive writing, drafting, or generating submission content is not permitted. AI may only be used for non-substantive purposes such as grammar and spell-check, reference formatting, or improving visual materials.

Any AI use must be declared, specifying the tool, its version, and the purpose. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their submission.

Eligibility of Authors

Submissions are open to academics, legal practitioners, and postgraduate researchers.

Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a degree programme are not eligible to submit abstracts or full papers to the conference.

Submission Limit

Each author may make only one submission to the conference, regardless of the discipline.

Submissions must strictly adhere to these guidelines to be considered for review and presentation.

All submitting authors are required to complete and submit the Author Declaration form alongside their manuscript. The declaration confirms the originality of the work, compliance with the AI use policy, and the author's consent to the conference terms. Please download the form, complete it, and include it with your submission via the CMT platform.
