Ongoing Collaborative Project with Professor GL Peiris
The academic staff of the Department of Private & Comparative Law is currently engaged in a collaborative project with Prof. GL Peiris to assist in the preparation of revised editions of his previously published legal texts. As part of this initiative, Ms. Buddhika Munasinghe, Ms. Tavini Nanayakkara, and Ms. Udani Imesha are working on updating his book ‘The Law of Property in Sri Lanka – Volume I’. Further, Mr. Kamal Ahamed and Ms. Prineetha Bandaranayake are contributing to the revision of his book on ‘Law of Evidence in Sri Lanka’. Their work involves incorporating recent legal developments and landmark judicial decisions into the revised editions, with a view to ensuring that the texts remain up to date. The revised books are expected to be published in the near future.

- Udani Wijayarathna has received the Best Presenter Award at the National Symposium on Tobacco and Alcohol Prevention, organized by the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA), Ministry of Health, for her paper titled “The Right to Health of the Child and Exposure to Tobacco and Alcohol: A Legal Analysis under Sri Lankan and International Law.”

- Ms. Tavini Nanayakkara has contributed an article entitled “Sitting on a goldmine: A critical analysis of the role of the actio injuriarum under the Roman Dutch law in safeguarding personal data privacy of data subjects in Sri Lanka” further to an invitation extended by the editors of the BASL Law Journal of 2025. This was as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the BASL.

- Ms. G.I.D.I Udani has been selected to present a paper at the international conference on “Women and Worlds of Learning: From the Medieval to the Modern Day” which will be held on April 13th and 14th, 2024, in Oxford. The conference is organized by the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the University of London.
